【Scholar Perspectives】Dr. Neil Boland on the Master Program in Waldorf Education at NTHU : Fostering Global Perspectives and Educational Innovation

Dr. Neil Boland, a professor at Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand, brings 17 years of teaching experience in primary and secondary schools across Japan, New Zealand, and Germany. His extensive background and commitment to education have positioned him as a key figure in fostering global dialogue and innovation among Waldorf teacher trainers through the educational department of the Goetheanum in Switzerland. His efforts have left a lasting impact on the development of Waldorf education worldwide.

As one of our international professors, Dr. Boland has been instrumental in guiding students toward deeper understandings of the principles and applications of Waldorf Education. Reflecting on his experience working with the program's students, he shared that it has always been a rewarding and inspiring journey:

The Waldorf master's program offered by NTHU is one of a kind in Asia. Delivered in Mandarin and English, it is attractive not only to Waldorf teachers and parents but also to anyone interested in deepening their understanding of this established and innovative approach to education.

Guided by highly qualified and experienced tutors from Taiwan and overseas, students explore contemporary and localised interpretations of Waldorf education  and, significantly, consider possible future forms which can better fit the needs of children and the complex times they live in.

Speaking personally, it is always a real pleasure to work with the students on the master's program. The modules are put together to complement and build on each other, culminating in an in-depth thesis project of the student's choice. It is heartening to be able to observe students expand and deepen their understanding of the importance of education in society how Waldorf education can help with this.
